    CD Cabinets

    Hi

I wonder if any body can help? I work for a company that makes Controlled drugs cabinets and have been tasked with trying to improve their design, make them better for the user. We have obviously got to keep within the requirements of the control of drugs act and the British standard but has any body got any thoughts?. I’m thinking about sizes, number of shelves spaces between shelves etc. I thought this would be a good place to start as you guys use them.

Wonder if your posting is authentic?
Inside information on them would be useful to someone with bad intent.

    OK, assuming its genuine.

Make them so you can change the door opening direction easily (like you can do with a fridge).
Ours is high on a wall in a right hand corner, hinged on the left.
If it was hinged on the right it would make life easier.
Thought about mounting it upside down, but welded in shelves would be 'just wrong' and that won't do.

Thanks for getting back, it’s genuine honest! This is us [url removed for now as advertising but seems legit] we just want to try to make them a little more user friendly if we can.

We can’t make the doors interchangeable unfortunately due to the security requirement and attack criteria, also the locks are only made one hand so the key hole would have to be upside down.
Do you have any particular preferences for packet / bottle sizes that you use frequently that you find difficult to store at present?

how about a basic thing - are the shelf heights adjustable in all your range? Different pharmacies can have completely different CD requirements depending on local prescribing habits. Moveable/removable shelves could be very useful whilst the integrity of the outside and locking system could remain untouched. Maybe a modular type system where spare parts could be used in several different models of cabinets - very useful if your shop has more than one size of cabinet then.

We would be happy to have the keyhole upside down.
The corner of the cupboard makes a nice dent in the skull after a while.
Or were my bob-the-builder hat in the vicinity.

Thanks, I'll look into the modular aspect, we already have adjustable on the larger units but not so much on the smaller ones.
Sorry about the dent in the skull, you'll have some cream for that i've no doubt.
    thanks again

The internal actual depth of the cupboard should be enough to hold 2 x 500ml of a certain green liquid bottles one exactly behind the other without interleaving/staggering them.
If you see what I mean.

Just a thought, how about keyless door lock, mind you not sure it is legal?

some shops already use a keypad-type electronic lock on their cd cupboards. Some fancy ones will even trigger the silent alarm if a particular access code is used.

I have seen one of those keypads which also has a time-delay feature. It takes 5 mins from from you enter the code until the door opens. For a CD script you prepare the lables while you're waiting but the guy forcing you to open it won't want to wait that long to see if the cops turn up.
