    Important Pharmacy Campaign

Hi, as of today I will be starting a new campaign on behalf of the pharmacy profession. I'm hoping to get as many pharmacists, technicians, pre-regs, students, support staff etc on board as well as the RPS, PDA etc.

In order to allow us to practice safely and effectively, this government needs to ban THOSE B*STARD OMEPRAZOLE YOU HAVE TO PEEL OPEN.

As well as this demand, we request that they consider those Aspirin EC 75mg with the plastic foil that's really hard to pop and a maximum limit on the number of co-codamol 8/500 tabs that any member of staff may be required to pop in any one day.

It is vital that if our profession is to move forward then we address these issues. Do forum members have any others to add?

Interesting, but whats the alternative tho? It looks like the trays are here to stay. Isn't blister packaging type down to manufacturer rather than government

It is down to manufacturer, but if the government passed the "Peely Open Omeprazole Act 2011" then it would solve these problems. The alternative is either things in bottles of 28 or good old fashioned easily burstable foil.

We also need a law passed that puts patient information leaflets in the other end of the box, not the end you're trying to take tablets out of. And we should ban those massive Ranbaxy Ramipril that take up loads of shelf space and you have to tear open.

Basically we need major reform in the area of b*stard packaging. :P

Perhaps this should be the Manufacturer's guide to Pharmacy :P

Make spaces for dispensing labels the right size and orientation?

Let's go all the way and pass a law that says if you can't open your own medicine then you don't get any.

Trust me on this, if people have to pop their own co-codamol they will.

Recently I was told "patients LOVE blister packs." I replied that they also love smoking, drinking and fast food but that doesn't make any of those things good for them and they PAY for them.

Which genius came up with the idea of aligning tablets in blister packs in such a way that its near on impossible to make a neat cut with a pair of scissors?

Having spent the majority of my 8hrs at work today making up MDS trays I am fully behind this cause. Can we also add Tramacet to that list?

Well I love popping tablets. Can't get enough of it. The tips of my thumbs and fore-fingers are now totally devoid of feeling and resemble a pair of old boots, but what the heck !
