    Unhappy Ikorel

    Hi guys
I have been set a question by my assessor: Is Ikorel suitable for mds packing and where could you find this information?
Doctor has requested all meds to be mds packed for this patient so what could I do and why?

Now I know that Ikorel can't be split because of its packaging, but cant remember what the large circular thing is which connects to all the tabs.

Please help I'm a bit stumped.

Info can be found from the Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) available here:

Ikorel Tablets - Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) - electronic Medicines Compendium (eMC)

Nicorandil tabs are sensitive to moisture hence why they are kept in their original packaging. The desiccant tab helps reduce humidity in the packaging and is not an active tablet.

Sometimes the Nicorandil must go in the tray or home services will not administer.
    This happens on our patch.
However, we use weekly MDS-Home from the NPA and get weekly prescriptions.
Not sure about stability for a week - however its a balance of cost.
Admit patient to a more costly care environment or keep them at home?

We request weekly prescriptions as we are providing a service that rotates weekly; the prescriber can also be confident that they can make weekly adjustments to patient medication without the patient getting overly confused.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.

    Re: Ikorel

Given the brainpower available to pharmaceutical companies I don't see why they can't formulate medicines that can withstand normal conditions.
We don't have extreme humidity in this part of the world so a tablet that can survive for a week or two outside it's original packaging isn't a lot to ask for.
Same goes for temperature sensitive drugs. Fair enough for injections but Daktacort Cream? We are hardly in the tropics so why the need for a fridge for some nappy cream?

Any pharmacy students at Uni want to work with us on this?
We send you a sample of Nicorandil/Ikorel from our DOOP/Patient returns bin still in the foil.
Using your sensitive lab balance you weigh them before putting them in a blister tray and sealing it.
After a week you take out a sample and weigh it, then two, three and four weeks.
Then you report back to us on the forum?
