I've just finished my first year studying pharmacy and have a few weeks to kill before my summer placement starts. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an interesting pharmacy/medicine based book to read? I'm currently reading Pihkal and finding it very enjoyable!

    Thanks!

A good read is the story of aspirin, forgotten the details, will look on amazon. Should be able to get from local library(may have to reserve).

Local library should be able to get for you. There is also a novel based on Bazalgettes london sewer. Read both these while on a Saga cruise.

    Thanks !

I had already considered the aspirin one, but wasn't sure if it would be a good read, but I'll definitely look into it now. I found an old copy of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics on ebay for a couple of pounds and am waiting for it to be posted.

You are on your holidays, read some novels and turn yourself into a well-rounded individual. Interesting as the story of aspirin is your workmates won't want to chat about it at tea-break.
Read all the celebrity magazines (camp out for a while in a dentist's waiting room) and watch the soaps and you'll fit right in.

THe story of aspirin is almost a novel in its own right. Bayer does not come out well. Me, I love Biographical stories, currently reading about The Lighthouse Stevensons and the Periodic Table by Scerri. The latter is a bit heavy going in parts, but shows that scientists are prone to all the sins of the rest of the human race.

I have a few good novels to get through already, but I want to broaden my pharmacy knowedge and not just by using textbooks. I've worked in a pharmacy for a few years and although everyone likes to gossip, we can still hold an intelligent conversation!
