My friend is a pre-reg pharmacist and we're both considering purchasing a pharmacy. The law seems quite complex on this matter, with licensed properties and other obstacles. Could any please clarify this? Essentially I'm looking for a quick guide to buying a pharmacy - does anyone know where I could find this?
You should make contact with a few advisers, e.g. solicitors, financial brokers. Tell them you're interested in their services for your proposed purchase, and they will answer most general queries you have over the phone - because to seem friendly and expert, they will want to show their expertise and experience.
I don't think there are that many pharmacy owners or business transfer agents on this forum (I know of only 1 owner) - so I don't think you'll get much specific advice here.
It all depends on how profitable the pharmacy is re price. However the law in Scotland is quite different to England, eg a partnership with a non pharmacist can lawfully trade in Scotland but not here in England and the scottish remuneration system is very different to here. Practicing pharmacy in Scotland is better paid and more professionally satisfying than in England.
I know a contractor in Scotland who may be prepared to advise if you "pm" me.
