Xamiol and dovobet - why do both exist?

Anyone know why both Xamiol and Dovobet gel are available?

Both made by Leo, both same strength, both for use on scalp, both same price.

Are there different indications for each one?

Also

DDVAP melts and Desmomelts same situation, apart from pack size I cant figure out why a company would double their workload. Even if pack size is the only difference - WHY???

Xamiol is only licensed for use on scalp whereas Dovobet gel is licensed for use on all over the body like dovoet ointment.

Why not just make Dovobet gel? Would do scalp and body? Xamiol seems a bit redundant? Are there any specific situations you'd supply Xamiol over Dovobet?

Any thoughts on the desmopressin?

Probably done for financial reasons. The company can release the same drug under a different name at a different price. Xamiol could be put forward as a POM to P switch perhaps?
The DDAVP and Desmomelts is probably trying to extend a patent by some slight difference in the form. Or trying to patent a form (nebules is a good example where the form is a registered trademark also emulgel, MUPS, Fastabs etc.)

According to SPC's, different indications for both.

DDAVP melt: Vasopressin sensitive cranial diabetes insipidus and in the treatment of post-hypophysectomy polyuria/dipsia

Desmomelt: Primary nocturnal enuresis

Randomly Dovobet gel rep came in yesterday and I told her my vexation.

Xamiol was the original gel that went through trials for use on scalp, Dovobet gel was launched from wanting to have continuity across their range, therefore brought out Dovobet gel and extended the licence for body use.

What she couldnt answer was why they still make and finance Xamiol. Maybe I should suggest a cost saving exercise to Leo for a small cut of the potential savings!!
