    shoecamp...

Worked at the shoecamp pharmacy two weeks ago. Two hours into my shift, area manager calls and says that I need to go to another branch, 45mins from where I am. Doesn't even bother to talk to me to deliver these news, does it through a shoecamp collegue. I then decided to go ahead and refuse as these were not in the terms of my booking. anyways, my locum agency seem to have slowed down giving me jobs and I know it was due to that incident....I'm so through working for this company. Cannot keep turning the other cheek as both cheeks r completely bruised..im done!

Often happened to me. I usually welcomed as a break from routine. Happy as long as I got mileage and paid travelling time.

Me too. Often needed an earlier finish, which they would agree to.

Wonder how they/you would deal with the invoicing: can imagine there would be some messing about allocating the time and mileage between the branches.

Not at all, just ensure you fill in form at second branch and charge whole day (unless over 4 hours at first branch, in which case would need separate form) plus mileage there and return.

my reason for refusing was it was a sat and had deliberately booked close by home so that i had time to do stuff after work. I was also being moved to a larger store and apparently the ' addicts' were all waiting outside..was i sure the methadone had been done the previous day? NO. and also how many methadone patients were there? all in all I decided to say no. Well, I think it was just one of those days....

Always horrible to arrive at a store and find a queue of addicts. They tend to come in groups to increase the opportunities for shop lifting. They should sign a three way contact with themselves, drug agency and the pharmacy re agreed pick up times.

If you said had prior engagement then OK to say No. I have usually been asked to go to a store when I have been second pharmacist or if easier for them to find nearby locum to cover where you are. Once or twice working for the 'bank' company, have covered two pharmacies where locum did not arrive. This was before the days of RP.

Remember the company will always look for the easiest option, your convenience is not their consideration.

There can be a number of reasons they want to move you, not just logistics. However, that is often the case.
Locum pharmacists have been moved on occasions because the branch is too quite, there is not enough work. Another reason might be that you are not doing as you are told by the resident pharmacy manager, which is you do all the work while he/she goes and sits in the office under the pretence of paperwork.
Yet another reason can be that one of the members of the dispensing staff have taken a desliking to you, perhaps because you have asked them to stop texting and put some stock away, which you need to finish the prescriptions.
Why or why is this profession so fractured? why cant we all get together and improve our working conditions?
Nobody else is going to do it.

Exactly. This is when I say, "yes, fine, but will need to return to this store for closing time because of another booking/appointment/picking children up/turn into pumpkin"

Usually not a problem- ball back in their court. Trick is to be co-operative and enthusiastic but full of regret that request conflicts with prior arrangements. If it is really essential that you don't get moved, then ensure no-one knows you have your car with you - or get dropped off.

Yes make them pay for a taxi. which they wont, of course, you will be expected to pay, get a receipt, and claim later.
