    Endorsing/Prescription Payment/Borderline Substance

I have a prescription for a borderline substance, marked ACBS. I'm happy with the endorsing side of things, but looking through the DT it doesn't say anywhere how we will be reimbursed. A colleague mentioned that if, for instance, we had an Rx for "Fortisip Mixed Flavours" we could give 5 different flavours and get a separate professional fee for each one, but do we get paid for the actual product?

5 Points for the first good answer

You get paid for each pack you give. You can claim a fee for each flavour, but ONLY if marked mixed/assorted by the Dr. (one patient charge either way, if you've got those ).

So - 16 assorted Rxed, give 8 flavours at 2 packs of each, all DNG, 8 fees (1 charge, 7 NC).
    16 strawberry/vanilla Rxed, 8 packs each, DNG, 2 fees (1 NC).

    And so on.
I'd tend to give assorted whether claimable or not as a customer service anyway - not really any more hassle!

The DNG endorsement is only accepted for unlicensed medicines though, not sip feeds. The clawback scale is always applied to Fortisip, even though you do not usually receive any discount. It's therefore usual to get reimbursed about 10.5% less for sip feeds than you paid for them. This loss of money is partially made up for by multiple dispensing fees.

Got another question, processing a rx for compression hosiery, it has been endorsed as 'open toe', when the item prescribed specifies 'closed toe'. If this was actually sent off like this would we get paid?

    Probably not.
Strictly speaking you should get it changed so the script reflects what has been given etc etc.
But add this to the trolley of stuff you have to do in the day and there isn't enough time.
    Pragmatism...
Check if there is a price difference in the DT.
If there isn't don't worry about it.

    Footnote ('scuse the pun)
If you have measured and fitted - make sure you claim.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

Ahhhh ok. Just trying to work out potential losses and things. I imagine if this was a big problem they would send it back to us.

Regarding the footnote, (toetally awesome pun!) I take it you can't claim MF if you just dispense a repeat for some stockings?

i guess money is 'tight' these days...

"Toetally" correct - if you haven't M+F'd then you shouldn't claim it.

For payment purposes, the Drug Tariff does not distinguish between closed toe and open toe compression hosiery. The same price is paid in either instance. Any endorsements RE open or closed toe will just be ignored.
