    Linezolid interaction with Rifampicin

Does anybody have any knowledge about what to do in the case of Linezolid interacting with Rifampicin. I have found information stating that Linezolid levels may be lowered or even become non-therapeutic but not sure if there is a set procedure for dealing with this? i.e. raising linezolid dose? what to raise it to and based on what?

    Many Thanks
    Sarah

    Re: Linezolid interaction with Rifampicin

The clinical significance of this interaction is unclear and the concurrent use of "rifampicin" and "linezolid" is not established. The available evidence suggests that, where possible, "linezolid" levels should be monitored if both drugs are given. If this is not possible it would seem prudent to monitor concurrent use closely to ensure that the antibacterial treatment is effective.

above from stockley, doesn't really offer much help. assuming its iv linezolid, and in a hospital setting. Maybe wroth speaking with microbiology to see if there are alternative antibiotics whihc can be sued that don't interact. Failing that would need to find somewhere that does linezolid levels......
