    Capsaicin Cream for Pruritus Ani

    Hi,

I'm trying to find more information regarding the use of Capsaicin Cream for Pruritus Ani. I have found research which states it can be effective in the strength 0.006%. Does anybody know anywhere that will dilute the brand Zacin 0.025% or has heard about anything regarding this?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Sarah

Capsaicin applied as such would be very painful. Presume idea is to act as counter irritant. My own thoughts are that traces of residual faeces would contain digestive enzymes which are thus merrily digesting the anal skin. The cure is removal by scrupulous hygiene. I have suggested using nappy wipes and also buying a tub of aqueous cream and stirring in 25-30ml TCP as antiseptic.
In the past Drs would prescribe Betnovate which I consider irresponsible.
By the way, 0.006 is stronger than 0.0025. I presume you meant a 1:4 dilution to give 0.006% from 0.025.
We used to extract capsicums to obtain the oleo resin. This was then dispersed on salt and used in packet foods.
This year I grew my own chillies and have just made a batch of sweet chilli sauce.

I realise that burning would be a side-effect. Trials show that it can be effective at 0.006% (apart from the approx 10% that dropped out due to side-effects!). I have seen that some pharmacies have diluted it by compounding with WSP. I was wondering if anyone knew of a specials manufacturing unit that had done/or currently do this.

    Enjoy your sweet chilli sauce!

Similar to dilution of Glycerol Trinitrate for anal fissure. Any manf lab should be able to do and may already be doing so. Just contact one you usually use.

Try Metanium ointment if due to irritation by digestive enzymes affecting skin.

Reminds me of the use of Baltimore (Aluminium paste) for use around stoma openings. Gosh, all we had in those days was Gamgee tissue as a sort of nappy. No bags available.
Gamgee and other dressings had chilli extract applied for warming effect in arthritis. Capsolin was Parke Davis brand of ointment. It died when Lloyds Adrenaline cream introduced, itself displaced by Algipan. All this long before NSAIDs. I well remember the excitement of Butazolidin.
