IMO, it's probably mainly wholesalers who are doing the parallel exporting, not individual pharmacies. Pharmacists wouldn't normally be able to get hold of enough stock to export!

Nobody worried about the countries concerned when the UK was busy importing from them. I agree re wholesalers, a glance at export stats might show who they were. When wholesalers started doing their own PI, very easy to sell back to those who were previously selling PIs to them.

send all scripts back, and leave a note with the receptionist to inform Drs of problem so they start prescribing alendronic acid. let the manufacturer of actonel suffer as a consequence. having said that, we always have actonel in stock and we give out just few ones everyday.

Going back to Actonel. Procter and Gamble have just sold their branded drugs business (Actonel, Asacol etc) to an Irish company. Don't know how this will impact the suppy chain though.

We had a problem getting alendronic acid from AAH not long ago so Drs unlikely to change scripts. When we cant get hold of something we send the patient off with a signed script to largest chemist around...do you work for boots?

I would suspect that Basildon and Great Yarmouth are main culprits. The former have been lauded by the financial press.

Many Irish pharmacies are well stocked up with "PI" actonel (ie UK). No supply trouble at all. Also no trouble getting micardis, nexium and the like. In fact I think nexium must be on some sort of bulk order deal--shops have shedloads of it.

The main Irish PI importers from the UK are profind, pco, imed, and something that used to be called colorama I think. I think PCO are Dutch, not sure about the others.
