    Manufacturer Quotas

If anyone else has ANY problems obtaining stock PLEASE fill out this form

Feedback Form Funding & Drug Tariff PSNC

The more feedback the PSNC get the better.

I have spent half an hour trying to get some Neoral for a patient only to be told it will be next Monday or Tuesday.

Unichem have used all their quota up and blame Novartis. Novartis are saying they are trying to protect their stock................who cares if patients liver rejects!??

OK i may be being slightly over dramatic but it SHOULDN'T be this hard to get stock.

It's getting beyond a joke. Now that the pound is weaker that ever compared to the euro.......and the PPRS has reduced UK prices, the UK is becoming a net parallel exporter whereas traditionally it was very much a parallel importer. Pharmacies in Germany and Scandinavia are dispensing UK stock (PIs). Now we're in a similar position to Greece and Spain, where drug shortages have been commonplace because UK pharmacies have been dispensing their medicines!! Pharmaceutical companies have restricted supplies to certain wholesalers in countries such as Spain because they knew that much of the stock was being exported. GSK once tried to sell its meds at a higher price to Spanish wholesalers that it believed were exporting its stock, than to wholesalers who it believed were not involved in such trade. This plan was blocked by the EC.

The result of this trade is that most major UK pharma companies are using quotas to control their stock. Pfizer have gone down a different route (as usual) and are restricting sales to individual pharmacies that it believes are ordering excessive quantities of its medicines........presumably it believes that a small number of pharmacies are selling its medicines to foreign wholesalers - which they probably are........I assume it's very profitable.

Novartis normally deliver within a few days if you have a direct account with them........but this may not be adequate when you need Neoral! Unfortunately, Novartis do not provide any discount (from the list price) on medications which are ordered direct. As a result, all medications ordered direct will be dispensed at a loss (unless they are on the 'discount not deducted' list in the drug tariff). Neoral is not on this list.

Or..... where moderators change the status of a post so it always sits at the top of the forum page, rather than going down as new posts are made on other topics. So new people won't miss it because it's buried 6 pages down. So it's "stuck" to the top of the list, hence "sticky".

    JonF,

I read on locumvoice that you were having trouble obtaining Plavix in adequate quantities. Have you ever used Phoenix Specials to obtain more? They can arrange a direct delivery from Sanofi-Aventis. I'm sure you already know about this but I thought I'd post anyway :-)

What a strange world we live in. Obtaining common medicines for patients is turning into an increasingly complex and time-consuming process.

Thanks, didn't know that, I will look into that on Monday. Do you still get invoiced through Phoenix and get your normal discount?

How true, i must have spent at least an hour over the last couple of days just trying to obtain these drugs. Normally would have just taken a 1 minute modem transmission!!

Trimethoprim tablets 100mg and 200mg are now only available in Ireland directly from the "new" manufacturer. Wholesalers are all out of stock. What the hell is happening here?..is it now all profit over ethics??
