    Pharmacy systems

    Hi all,

Does anyone know, what are the costs involved if you were to opt for a new Pharmacy System for a pharmacy operating around 4000 items/month. It would be nice if any of the past/ current owners of pharmacy add their views with some cost figures (instead of just asking to call the providers)

I have worked always on ProScript and find it very user friendly. If I were to suggest someone this system, then do I have any majority who agree with me?

We use proscript and it is great for volume labelling.
Some of the extra bits seem to be a bit tacked on rather than integral to the program but you kind of get used to how the different modules work (MUR, MDS, Substance Misuse, repeat management, stock control and ETP.)

The choice was made by price and the ease of transferring from another system. (MediPhase)
I'm not sure that anyone is likely to give you a price as these tend to be negotiable.

Pharmacy Manager goes through phases of being very good but then stumbles when they do major upgrades.
Latest is for EPSR2 and MDS integration. I think its going to be great once it stabilises again.

Best thing is you can switch tasks on the tabs and go back to where you were without losing work.
A bit like what we do all the time as pharmacists!
We always run it with Advanced Patient Notes display as you select the patient.
    Saves a lot of time.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

Pharmacy Manager is one of the more expensive sytems to go for, but it is easily the best one i have used to date. As Pharmanaut said the ability to swich between tabs without losing work is brilliant, it means you can deal with a prescription in its entirety in one go, all the dispensing labels, ordering, endorsing, stock check, interactions etc. can be dealt with from one screen.

There would be no point in me giving you the costs per quarter for pharmacy manager as i have sinced moved to another dispensary using LINK evolution, and there is no point worrying about LINK evolution as it is being phased out at the end of the year. I have also used proscript a bit and it is a pretty good system, user firendly and easy enough to be tought the basics, the dispensing screen can be a bit cluttered, i think they have tried to put far too much on one screen, but that is a matter of getting used to it.

My advice, get in touch with pharmaSys and have a look at their web based package, and have a read of the 'Pharmasys' thread on this forum. The cost for pharmaSys are minimal due to the online-nature of the software, the initial costs are between £900-£1k, and there are NO ongoing maintainance costs, except for N3 line rental, which is £200 per month if you require it.

PharmaSys would cost you £600 per quarter, matching what you get from the PCT for the N3. No license fees or maintenance fees and of course EPS2 is a free upgrade.
