    Scottish GPs changing computer systems

A lot of Scottish GPs practices are changing over to emis so watch out for descriptions changing on computerised scripts.

The descriptions should be the DM+D descriptions which are being standardised across the NHS.

    I'm interested to know:

Are they changing from another provider? Are they changing to EMIS web? Why the change?

Isn't emis part of or linked to pharmacy2u. Means that dispensing Drs losing out to a new pharmacy can simply direct their pts tp p2u and collect a commission?

There is a repeat service with pharmacy2u that relies on a plugin to the EMIS software. same as medsrequest.

Interestingly RxSystems has been taken over by EMIS in a 10mil. pound deal. Also AAH link users are being moved to Proscript LINK and this process is complete in Scotland (Where EPS is easier)

I'm wondering whether EMIS' connection to RxSystems will encourage them to implement a repeat management system with the kind of link that pharmacy2u (Medsrequest) has but managed at the pharmacy using the Proscript PMR system. The odd thing is that EMIS web, which they are pushing as they are not developing EPSr2 for any other versions, uses a web based database while Proscript has all the data stored locally.

What are the chances of Proscript WEB?

Heard that it all needs to be upgraded for Windows 7 (the EPS part anyway)
The whole software thing has got to big for pharmacists to be involved in, and the pharmacy side will be money spinning business of whoever the scripts get syphoned off to, with us just being the beasts of burden; we will become like any healthcare software - like it or lump it user. However, we will still have all the legal responsibility for errors.

You've got to hand it to those guys for spotting the opportunity and exploiting it though.

I just saw it as a means for DDs to vent their spite on a new pharmacy.

Seems that GPASS has been on the way out since 2006 looking at the articles on Ehealth. Doctors can have a system provided or use one of the GP "Systems of Choice". Looks like surgeries that are using GPASS will automatically be swapped to EMIS.

Wonder how much each GP practice is paying for the conversion?

I'm not 100% sure how the system works and if it's the same in Scotland but under GPsoc (system of choice?) or the LSP (Local service privider) the PCT pay for the systems AFAIK.
