    Oh! The wonders of Technology

I have been in pharmacies when the cptr has crashed or become 'frozen'. No one knew what to do as the person who 'did' the cptr was on holiday/ill/left.

The first try is control+alt+delete. If this does not work then again the staff are desperate. I suggest we turn the cptr off to be met with 'the cptr must never be turned off'.

I stealthily press the button and then restart and all is well again.

This morning I wanted to order my scripts from the surgery online. However, my computer is away for repair and upgrade so am using a laptop. This does not have the correct address in it.

No sign of the address on the sgy leaflet other than the mantra 'for online scripts, contact the surgery'.
I did so and 'Oh the lady who set it all up has left and no one else knows anything about it'.

I contact Systemsonline to see if they have the portal address. 'No, contact the surgery'.

I then contacted the providers Chilvers Mcrae to see if they could help. Their first reply was also
    contact the sgy.

Eventually, they said they did have access to the surgery cpts and would see what they could find. I await their call.

Conecting for health? Connecting for confusion more likely.

Although I can apreciate how annoying this is I think it only fair to point out that the problem you have is not caused by a failure of the technology.
That is like blaming a telephone when you don't know someones phone number.

Also as much as I dislike Connecting For Health online repeat services are not part of the NPfIT and so they are unlikely to have anything to do with the surgeries repeat service.

If you google the surgery there may be a link to the repeats page from their main web site?

Can you imagine what's going to happen when the EPS or whatever it's called get's going??? I'm really hoping i'm not working in community when it happens........
I was just in the Co-op this morning and the MCA was having fun with the tills. They can't be used if there's a connection problem. This has happened to us in our store on many occasions. I have a love/hate relationship with computers. My IPhone on the other hand is the bees knees.....love it...

Was also thinking about a solution to Johneps probs. Would some bright spark at your local pharmacy have the surgery online address?? I say this because I keep a list of such things in a special book in our dispensary that stays in a drawer just in case....maybe there's a tech at your local that has something similar??? Just a thought....

ChilversMcraedid not have the soln, yes I went onto sgys website but nothing there except address etc. Prior to Systems on line I used to order by email, but sgy often did not look at their email for days. I will fax later today.

Having a piece of paper hanging out of the fax machine (if any paper in it) I have found best way of attracting attn.

Basically, I was moaning about lack of fail safe process. Amazon etc can do it, why not these other systems.?

One of the reasons why I keep telling people that a software only contract with a PMR supplier is a bad idea.
OK, the regular manager or owner's nephew might be the bees-knees on computers, but sod's law says it will fail when they are not available.

Even if you do have "the knowledge" don't let on. If you do something to an ailing system, failure will become your fault!

The only way forward for us is proper NHS IT funding just like the GP.

Oh yes, keep very quiet. If you say you can help any subsequent fault will be yours.

Same with any friends as well.
    Especially laptop problems.
You can spend an evening finding the drivers.

Almost tempted to include family, but can't really pretend with them!
But they can be just as bad on occasion.
