It happened to me last night: I couldn't log on at all using Opera, so used IE6 which worked fine., except the formatting was all over the place. Then I noticed Admin was tinkering at her control panel, so I suspect that was what it was. I think Vbulletin logs everyone off when significant changes are made to the forum structure.
All back to normal now, though, AFAICS.....

I've bought the latest vBulletin backbone software, and am waiting for the full package release which will include bogs and all sorts of cool stuff when released.
We did four back ups of the forum and installed the new program the last two nights - this could maybe be the explanation.
