    eCDR and date order

    someone emailed me saying:

I spoke to the npa with regards to your program. my aim is not to use a electronic reg but to use it to create a manual reg. they said that both the received and dispensed register entries must be in chronological order together and not independently.
my ecdr has two seperate register for each drug category one for dispensed drug entries the other for received stock entries.

Now I know the NPA have designed their written registers to show both in chronological order on the same pages. But this is not a legal or best requirement, or is it?

Difficult to show a running balance if the input and output (so to speak) are not on the same page in chronological order.

Wait until EPSR2 is completed and no doubt our mainstream suppliers will add CD registers, especially when electronic schedule 2 and 3 are permitted, though they aren't at the moment.

I think they will continue to do the bare minimum they can get away with.
    ....just my opinion

eCDR seems to be a bit of a minefield.
The interpretations of what is required by law and what is considered to be good practice but not essential seems to be open to debate between different pharmacy bodies and even individual inspectors.

Our system supplier has a beta version in test but I would run it side by side with a paper version for a bit before accepting it as legally binding.

Paper registers for me, and I'm supposed to be the computer savvy one around here (here being here where I am, not specifically this forum).
Why on earth is that Pharmanaut? Did I hear you ask.
Because you don't have to worry about back ups, computer audit trails, archiving, people making the mistake of recovering a backup over current data instead of creating the backup etc etc.
Dispenser writes up register and pharmacist checks it. Takes but a couple of seconds to check, dispenser puts register away etc etc.
