    sat nav

Does anyone have satnav and is it worth it? I have to work somewhere a bit obscure in a few weeks and wondered about getting it. Have been recommended Tomtom by a friend.

Good if you are trying to find pharmacies in obscure places for the very first time.
Useful if you are the type who gets 'white line fever' and misses your junction on the motorday.

Generally don't bother with one though, mainly because its too easy to look at the screen and not at the road ahead, as my friend who has one will testify.

Mrs Pharmanaut has a 'Road Angel' speed camera warning thing, mounted so that you can hear it, but such that you can't see it to be distracted.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

I have one. I prefer Garmin to Tomtom though. In general, they work much better in the UK, as you just plug in the postcode, and off you go. In Ireland, it can be almost impossible to find the address you're looking for, especially if it's part of a townland..I once had all sorts of problems with it trying to find a friend's house just outside Kilkenny. Works fine in the cities though.

Just goes to show it is personal preference. I couldn't get on with the Garmin but I love my tomtom!! (you can put in postcodes with this too) Halfords have a good range that you can have a look at.

I have a Garmin (my second one) and I wouldn't be without it.
I have the speed camera database on it as well which is useful for reminding you of the limit whilst on an unfamiliar road looking for what lane you are supposed to be in whilst avoiding all the other traffic.

I use a Garmin and it's great. You can even get the updated maps on dodgy web sites.......

I got myself a Tomtom in the end, then my dad got a Garmin. The Garmin had a qwerty keyboard for addresses, which is much easier .

And what would happen if it picked up a virus from a dodgy site?

"Take me home, country roads, to the place I belong...."

lots of country roads, I suspect, and the odd ploughed field! And now that you can get Google moon, or whatever, you just don't know what the route might be in any case
