Just DO NOT try sending the order in the background then doing a backup...
Lets face it - you have to keep up to date with hardware if you want to be able to do the job properly. A system older than two years or so isn't up to it. Also one place I know is 'software only', so any hardware problems are a nightmare. The PMR supplier does its best but there is always the 'grey area' if 'compatible' stuff is used that the supplier hasn't tested on. Modem chipsets used to be a pain, as most modern modems laugh at you when you set them to 300baud for wholesaler ordering.

Does anyone do a Mac-based system? Or has adapted a program to run on Mac? Just curious since I'm not involved, but use a Mac and do all sorts of things at the same time.

Doubt it - the specifications require Windows XP professional as the operating system.

Yes they do.
Lets all forward it to our PMR suppliers - we need more than a basic interface.

I had a pharmacy Manager set up with 3 terminals and 2 scanners and 1 smart card. You could scan on either scanner then view that script from any terminal.
Just spoken to Rx systems regarding needing 1 smart card per access point. Apparantley the specification for ETP states that at each spine access point(i.e each PC terminal in pharmacy) a smart card and pin is needed for access. I asked about Pharmacy Manager and he said if it allows access to 3 terminals with one smart card then that is not allowed!!??

In Scotland and Wales all the security is done via the router so a smart card at each terminal is not required. Rx Systems said this would provide high enough security but is not allowed in England!!

As far as I understand it - release 1 ETP only involves pharmacies downloading scripts from the NHS spine and so 1 card can cover a whole pharmacy - presumably from multiple terminals as it has been seen to be operational this way.

From release 2, pharmacists will have more access and so 1 card per user will be enforced as it is in GP practices and every member of staff in a pharmacy will need their own card and password and have access rights depending on their level of need.

At this point, I would assume that a smart card would be needed at each terminal.

Thought I'd give this EPS lark all another try to see if it had improved.

Scanned a script at 5.45pm last night.

At 12:30pm today it still hadnt arrived.

Speedy or what!!

I've been told its all being discussed under RBACS (role based access control) with CfH and IG (information governance).

yes - it's all under discussion but the reason (i understand) for every user having their own card is becuase setting a patients nominated pharmacy means searching the "pateint demographics service" - a list of all the patients in the country. To check there are no funny goings on with people seatching for folks they shouldn't be a smartcard is required for every user to give a secure and valid audit trail (the same as for everyone else in GP practices / hospitals etc.)
