BTC tend to have a terminal on reception which enables many queries to be dealt with, and not interupting dispensing process. It would seem logical to have the scanner at reception and the system to be capable of buffering.

When I first got the kit I made sure that the "main" scanner was where the scripts were handed in. The scanner beeps and the light flashes for a successful scan so there is no need to see a screen.
Sounds great...but heres the catch-
On pharmacy manager on the "EPS" screen if you scan a script then the EPS screen refreshes and makes it "jump" and impossible to pick one off if someone is merrily scanning.
Yes with link you can do anything on another terminal whilst scanning.
They tell me that in the next program release they should have improved the "returning scripts" bit so it runs in the background rather than locking up the screen for a minute with "please wait".
Running in the background with perhaps a small pop up to let you know something is going on.

Processes running in the background get my vote
Its always bee a bug bear of mine that most systems don't allow you to do anything whilst orders are sent. I seem to remember that Pharmacy Manager did let you carry on working, but it slowed everything down to such an extent you might as well have been locked out! It's been a while since i've used Pharmacy Manager so that may now have changed.
