NHS24 phone in on weekend

NHS24 doctor phones in to say someone will be in because they need X amount of Drug Y - not necessarily a CD. A staff nurse also came in with the patient and confirmed his details, checked her ID and also confirmed he was on this drug. Was I right in giving this out, despite there being no prescription present? Records have been kept in relevant book, but was rushed for time and patient was waiting, so was pushed for time to make a decision.

If Dr phoned, where is fax? If on road always take details, GMC nbr etc and check who is employing them so you can chase if no script arrives. trust you got a signature from the nurse/patient?

Actually I didn't . However, I did get the details of the patients usual Dr and Surgery which is just up the road. Getting quite worried and only made a decision because otherwise the patient would have no medication.
Worst comes to worst, it could be covered with a CPUS form written retrospectively, but of course, thats not ideal.

Emergency supply at the request of a prescriber:
* prescriber provides prescription within 72hours
* entry made in POM register on or the next day (dr's details, med details + patient's details) - amend entry to include the date that the prescription is received

i took all details, except the Doctors name.... I did write it was NHS 24, but do you think I could get any info 2 days on if I phoned NHS 24 and tried to track down through them to get a fax sent?

Yes, I had to do this once under similar circumstances. May well find that Dr from overseas and gone home.
