    H2 receptor antagonists and chemo

    Trying to find out the pharmacological reasoning behind giving ranitidine (or equivalent) as a pre-med before paclitaxel. H2 receptor antagonists work on the parietal cells in the stomach, yet paclitaxel does not exhibit common side effects in that area. Rarely, patients might get oesophagitis...

    Ok, think it's something to do with vasodilation - please confirm?

    BNF mentions it along with an antihistamine (H1) and corticosteroid to prevent hypersensitivity reactions, but apart from providing extra anthistamine cover can't find any other reason
