Are both the drugs ever administered together?
Both have similar modes of action, have similar indications and they both depress cardiac function, verapamil more so than diltiazem. So I would guess probably not.

speaking of administering two same class of drugs, I saw on one drug chart that solifenacin and tolerodine were prescribed the same time... and the patient ended up suffering from massive constipation
Computer systems could warn against this type of thing, but many of them have this feature switched off?
Why?
Because they over-alert...
eg two drugs for hypotension etc.

I had clopidogrel and dipyridamole together in the middle of a nightmare script for a new patient. They turned out not to want the clopidogrel anymore but I'm just glad that the patient understood what they were taking!
