    Beta blockers AR2 blockers

I was recently told that as beta blockers block the effect of renin if a patient is given losartan then the effect of the beta blocker will be blocked.

I have tried seaching the use of BBs and AR2 blockers and ACE inhibitors and if they can be used in combination and the resulting effects with renin, but I have had no success. I would be greatful if someone could help. Thanks.

No, that is not correct. Beta-blockers and losartan can be given in combination, if necessary.

In the treatment of hypertension, a beta-blockers + losartan combination would not generally be optimal. It would be more effective to combine losartan with a CCB or a thiazide diuretic.

Adding B Blockade to ACEI or ARB agent is in theory an attractive idea. Most of failures to control BP in people taking ACEI or ARB is the increase of Renin release in the body due to the absence of negative feedback usually done by angiotensin II. The b blockade in the kidney blocks or at least partially the production of Renin, hence the attractiveness of adding a b blocker to ACEI or ARB in some people.

    I hope it makes sense.

from Stockley Drug Interactions p81: "Adding a Beta Blocker to ARB may lead to additive hypotensive effect."
my opinion :this is a synergistic pharmacodynamic interaction which cancel the idea of blocking b-blocker effect

Recommended tx in heart failure is use of beta blockers and ACE inhibitors/ ARB's depending on tolerance. Therefore, combination of both along with other uses such as those mentioned above are adequate.
