Lady waiting for me at rota today. She was looking worried and clutching a script bag. I thought 'Oh dear, an error to deal with'. But no, what worried her was how to open a glass amp of normal saline to be used for flushing her husband's indwelling bile duct drain. She had only plastic ones before.
I showed her the blue dot on the neck of the ampoule and demonstrated the action of opening.
What has aroused my CPD curiosity was whether solns for use inside the body have to be packed in glass, whereas irrigation solns could be in plastic.
Any ruling on this?

Those solutions can be packed in glass as well as plastic container closure systems.
The quality recomended has been laid down in Ph. Eur., BP, USP.

Hi
When glass is recycled it gets turned in to more glass. It can be recycled over and over and never lose its integrity. Plastic bottles, however, are not recycled into plastic bottles. The plastic loses its integrity and needs to be turned into something different such as plastic lumber or carpet padding. Because of this, some people say that plastic isn’t truly recycled.

Looks like another possible spam attack.
