    calcitriol capsule

i heard in places where the liquid form of calcitriol is not available, the calcitriol capsules are poked using a needle and its content(sort of oily liquid) being drawn out. is this a common practice, or, is it safe to do so? perhaps alfacalcidol drop will be a better choice?

    Re: calcitriol capsule

Calcitripl is the di hydroxylated form whereas alphacalcidol is one hydroxyl.

Vit D is inactive in the body until hydroxylated in the liver and kidney. Kidney failure or anephric pts cannot do this but even if only 10% of liver left, hydroxylation is possible. Main point is that calcitriol double price of one alpha.

OK for oral, would not consider for injection.
