    Re: Codeine Addiction

I've seen methadone Being used by drug addiction clinics to replace codeine. There was also a study using mxl inthis type of patient. Not common though as normally patients don't get reffered to these specialist clinics!

Someone also mentioned Phenergan. We have many Mums who regularly come in to buy it. We don't keep it in stock and only order it when it's actually on a script. Are there any pharmacies that still sell this item to customers??
And thank goodness there are supportive web sites like Codeinefree. They do an amazing job....
We don't keep Phenergan but I know the independent just up the road does. If ask for an otc purchase I inform the customer that we don't sell it. We also don't keep kaolin and morphine but get loads of requests for it. I make sure all the staff notify anyone buying co-codamol that shouldn't be for more than three days continuous use and to refer anyone who they think is buying too often or they're a bit worried about to me. I've got one guy who's a bit hung up Propain which I declined a sale for last week and advised to see his GP.

    Re: Codeine Addiction

I have moved pharmacies and it's amazing just how many "regulars" I now see coming to my new place of work which is about a half mile from my old one. They know they know me from somewhere but just can't remember where!!! The ones that do remember me walk away till there's another member of staff available to serve them their weekly "Nurofen Plus" etc. The only thing I can do is remind them about the three day thing and inform the on duty pharmacist as it is up to them how they deal with it. I do have some empathy for these customers though. I did have a very rude older customer lean over the small counter to try and grab his regular pack of Nytol and he was not pleased when I intervened!!! He even called me a member of "the Spanish inquisition" in response to my WWHAM questioning!!! All that did was make me laugh as I was picturing a comfy chair, some pointy cushions and Micheal Palin and Co running in to the shop!!!!
