Default Storage of Insulin

It has come to my attention that Lantus insulin not only doesn't need to be, but shouldn't be, stored in a fridge after starting to use it. Now I gather other formulations of insulin are similar.

Anyone got a list? I need it to advise Care Homes.

Going to be fun with the District Nurses, too!

I arrived one day to find insulin from previous day awaiting checking. I'm afraid I let it go as believe reasonably stable for the time being used in a pen.
no problems reported.

Can I be cheeky and ask where you got the chart Pharout?

Was it online? If so have you got the link?

Linnear,
I've sent you a copy to the email address you have listed in this thread. It comes from the Pharmacist's letter which is published monthly here in the U.S. It is available online, however, you need a subscription.

Let's ask the people at our PMR suppliers to find this out on put it on the systems, it would be a useful guide.

Give us more of a clue and we can check to see if it's cached on google.

I was told my a gentleman from Novonordisk that once the patient opens the packet they can leave the injection they are using out of the fridge, and probably should. They should only be kept in the fridge when not being used to maintain shelflife.

My wife was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 6 wks ago.

The diabetic specialist nurse said that the pens in use should NOT be stored in fridge. Get them out 12hrs before first use so they get to room temp. If not finished within 28 days then discard and use a new one.

38 days before dad time!!
