oh !!watch your spelling mate
is independent prescribing an agreement between the pharmacist and the patient?
so what is the point of being independent if they have to refer back to the GP
A supplementary prescriber works to a management plan that has been agreed with the GP. This plan can be broad or narrow. An independent prescriber does not require such a management plan, and they are free to prescribe anything within their area of competence.
does the doctor have to agree with the prescriptioon or is it between the pharmacist and the patient only?
thanks
supplementary prescribing=
the GP, Supplementary and the patient agree that the supplementary prescriber wll tend to the needs of the patient,
the management plan say what the suppl.. prescr.. can presribe and for what condition, e.g. condition could be asthma and the medicines prescribable under the plan would be say all the medicines and devices in BNF section 3(respiratory).
Plan also sets out review time e.g. 6-12 months and also what conditions would be refered back to the GP.
o after this is put in place the patient just goes to the pharmacist who is able to prescribe anything on the NHS, without consulting the doctor.
in this both the GP and and suppl..presc... would be responsible
independent prescribing pharmacist-
Privately you can prescribe anything except for CDs, but to presribe on the NHS you need to have funding, which is realy hard to get at the moment. (guidlines say can prescribe only according to your competences but that only means know what you're doing)
the pharmacist would be totally responsible for their own prescribing
