When I was at Uni taking B.Phm, Prof Linnell told us that community pharmacy was for the C&Ds and Ph.Cs. A degree was for those students wanting to succeed in academia, research or industry.

I think we are now approaching overskill and the Govnmt certainly consider we can be replaced in the community by cheaper techs.

1. Prof Linnell was an intellectual snob.

2. On what evidence?

He had a great influence on me as a working class lad and first one in the family to go to uni. Consequently I did a couple of years teaching and went into industry. At a recent reunion for those graduating in 57,58,59 the several millionaires had all made their fortunes in retail, except for the host who is a half billionaire with his fortune made from publishing.

With regard to modern students I am not scornful of their academic ability, but rather of the primary school teachers who thought that spelling and multiplication tables did not matter today. Actually, the standard of spelling and grammar on this forum is much higher than average.

Not sure if figure still published though.
I can't find it anywhere unfortunately.

You could try the individual schools sites. They often list nbr of students both undergrads and research.

Are more people studying pharmacy in general or is it because more people want to undertake the pre-reg year in particular stores?

You think a 2.2 is hard to get???? Anything below that is an attendance award and fairly meaningless!

No a 2.2 is easy to get. Just turn up and pass the exams and you'll get a 2.2

I don't understand?

When did I say I thought a 2.2 would be hard to get? I'm pretty sure that I'd have absolutely no problem getting a 1st if I apply myself. Both Maths and Chemistry are relatively easy for me at A-Level (I know uni is a different ball game). I was simply asking why securing a pre-reg place is becoming more competitive.

You didn't Wasteman.

Don't worry, you'll get used to some of your colleagues getting the wrong end of the stick.

What I would suggest is getting some vacation placements, if at all possible, in the sort of places where you think you want to do your pre-reg.

And the best of luck.
