    missed dianette

I was at work today and overheard the pharmacist speaking to a customer about dianette. She said that a missed dose counted as greater then 12 hours and if one tablet missed then use condoms for 7 days. I was a bit confused about this as I thought that dianette was a COC so would it not fit under the guidelines of if 2 or more tablets missed then this is when condoms required.
Here is my reference source for my beliefs http://www.fsrh.org/pdfs/CEUStatementMissedPills.pdf

Any help would be greatly appreciated

If she can't remember to take her pills, should she really be on them at all? -- better to get an implanon fitted and be safe!

I thought a lot of the progesterone only formulations caused weight gain and can worsen acne, for a girl taking dianette I don't see that as being suitable. In my opinion forgetfulness is only a major issue with POP( except cerazette) where over 3 hours counts as a missed dose, i wonder how many girls take it at the same time come the weekend lie-ins!

You are correct but you will notice your ref is dated May 2011, only a few months ago. Until then the advice was as the pharmacist said. She may not be up to speed with the new advice OR she may be the cautious type who, like me, thinks it is better to be safe than sorry.

The advice is quite complicated in that it depends on which part of the pack the pill is missed, so the pharmacist may have just been trying to keep it as simple as possible. If you tell some people it's okay to miss one tablet then they get casual about taking them.

On PCT EHC courses, advice was to give the EHC anyway for pts peace of mind. I always did but sometimes had to stop the lady from giving me graphic details best for the confessional box.
