long term use of estazolam, and drugs to replace the increasing side effects

hi, have a relative in china, who's friend's parents are currently on estazolam, most likely to be over 60/70 of age, will get the other medications soon and post on here, but they've been on estazolam for the past 2 years, and recently started getting symptoms of agitation, aggression, to family members, i can't reallly recommend with confidence as i'm still a student, but thought it was irregular to be put on Benzodiazepines for such a long time? and could the side effects be due to the tolerance built up to the drug, note that the drug has not been stopped at any point. and should the Z drugs solve the problem?

    thank you

It would probably be best to reduce the estazolam dose gradually over a period of weeks and then stop. A tablet cutter may come in handy. The doctor would also need to review the possibility of other non-med related causes of aggression and unusual behaviour.
