    Re: bad thinking?

I've done both and hospital pharmacy is way better than retail.....but that is my opinion. The money, training, hours and lack of dealing with customers are my reasons for trying to get back to hospital. I hate the way retail pharmacy has become. The training used to be ok but now we do these multiple choice questions each month on various subjects (usually on the products we sell and the POM to P's). If we don't get the 80% pass mark, we just repeat the same questions over and over till we pass!!! There's no training involved in this at all. It's basically pretending to be "training all our pharmacy staff on a regular basis".........utter rubbish. And using bits of coloured plastic to make the counter staff sell dodgy bits of electrical equipment that folk don't need......
Forget retail and go for hospital........
Hope I haven't upset anyone who works in retail. That's not my intention, just my very humble opinion. Sorry if anyone is offended.....

"And using bits of coloured plastic to make the counter staff sell dodgy bits of electrical equipment that folk don't need..." we know which pharmacy corporate you work for, lol.

I worked in a pharmacy for a few days for this same company which had this supervisor who did everything by the book. She had limited experience in pharmacy (8 months), and got the supervisors job because no one else wanted it. Her background was in retail. She would carry out staff searches, tell everyone what to do to the point, even in the dispensary, where all the staff were highly qualified (NVQs, ACT course etc...). Really irritating when she picked up a basket which waiting for further processing and say what's this as if she was in charge and knew everything about the dispensary process.

isn't it more that you acquire them, rather than sit down and learn them from a book...i would have thought its by doing the job you pick up on little gems..
