On the balance of liability, I'm always worried about first-aid, though usually afterwards!
Most of it around here tends to be emergency eye-wash or burns when someone overheats their car in the busy traffic, decides to open their radiator and gets scalded by the outflow of superheated water. Emergency eye-wash tends to be DIY - mostly saturdays.
I don't think I would stop to render first aid when not on duty though.
