why do doctors not prescribe Rennie tablets as an antiacid instead of Rantidine if the patient ask so ,other than being an OTC,,what is the difference ,does it have more side effects ?is it less effcetive ? why is OTC

but it seem to be better than rantidine for some patient wen you take it fro so long Rantidine becomes so pointless.

Rennies become pointless after a while - all they do is neutralise stomach acid, while ranitidine reduces stomach acid production.

Also, if all a person needs is a few Rennies then they are wasting their GP's time as they should go and just buy some! Bloody hell they only cost a few quid - hardly a bank breaker is it.

So far as I'm aware dr's can prescribe rennie duo susp, but not rennie. H2 antagonists are more effective and probably as safe. They're more often used in peptic ulcers + GORD. To be honest for mild symptoms with indigestion, heartburn, overeating,etc Rennie or any alginate antacids would do the trick.

You need to explain to your patients that Ranitidine takes an average of half an hour before you feel some relief as it needs to be absorbed and interact with its receptors. Once working, it should provide cover for 12 or 24 hours depending on the dose.

Rennie is an antacid. It just neutralises the excess acid in the stomach, hence patients feel an instant response, though that effect is not very long (which is enough in mild cases).

because rennie just neutralize the acid that have produced in the stomach (the acid that have been exist in the stomach) so its action is temporary and transient..
while rantedine (h2 receptor antagonist) act by reduce the acid production by the stomach itself so it is more effective as well as it have longer t1\2 and it have fewer DDIs (drug-drug interaction)..
