    Arrow syringe driver prescription Q

    Hello,
After looking through some past exam papers I have a question regarding prescriptions for CDs+syringe drivers, which I can't say I've come across before. Say you had a prescription reading:

    Diamorphine 45mg in syringe driver
    Give over 24 hours

This would not be legally valid - though I can't think how it should be written properly

    Should it be:

    1 [ONE] X diamorphine 45mg ampoule
    Plus syringe driver
    Give over 24 hours

This doesn't look right to me somehow, I'd be grateful if someone could tell me if this meets the legal requirements

Gosh, although in the real world most of these are written by people who know what they are doing, so that the mimimum of avoidable pain is experienced by the waiting patient. Even the forgeries are more legally and sensibly written than that.

I dare say you know that Diamorph doesn't actually come in 45mg ampoules, so the script might be written:

Diamorphine Amps 30mgm, give Ten (10)
45mg to be administered in the syringe driver over 24 hours.

Water for injections could be supplies if needed.
    ....just my opinion
