    Hey John..

That is exactly what I was thinking about doing...a locum here and there in pharmacy to preserve the income, and a bit of teaching, perhaps chemistry or physics as a supplement. Don't really give a toss about the money any more, it's all about job satisfaction, if that really exists.

    Hi Fleegle,
well teaching is a nice profession it is rewarding. The main thing is the school you work at. If its a challenging school it is rather frustrating because 90% of each lesson will be exhausted in behavior management
and that is really irritating, because it basically means all your planning is set back.. The pay does not quite compare with Pharmacy, but if you can locum at the same time then you will be loving life i guess.
The pay increases every year by a grand or so, that is nice and if you manage to get a leadership role you get an extra £3-5k. Below i have a link outlining the pay scales of teachers:

Qualified teachers' pay scales from September 2009 - Career - TES Connect

If you work in london as with any job you benefit with inner london allowance. But most of the urban schools will be challenging.
I wouldnt say you get paid £10hr unless you are a newly qualified teacher and working in a remote location.
The main thing you may find annoying is that you will definately take work home all most everyday; planning and marking etc.

I remember my first week at Highbury Grove in North London. In bed at 8pm utterly exhausted. Second year was at Palmer's School Grays in Essex. Absolutely delightful and would have stayed, but we wanted to buy a bungalow and mortgage not possible on teacher pay (was £770/year at that time).
