You've obviously never come across the patients who've been prescribed salbutamol inhalers for their allergy to pet hairs, and go around spraying the dog/cat with it! Or the man who's rubbing Nitrolingual into his chest, when he gets chest pains... Or the woman who wouldn't take her tube of steroid cream on holiday with her because it said "for local application only"...

I once had a young woman (about 20) prescribed a nitrolingual spray. It was when the patients age wasn't on the script. As I handed it over I said "it's obviously not for you" to which she told me it was, and had been prescribed by a hospital consultant for a stomach/bowel problem she had. I tried to think how nitrolingual spray could possibly help with this (from a pharmacology point of view) but couldn't think of any.

I rang the Dr and he said it was on a letter from the hospital, just as the girl had said. When I pointed out my concerns, he agreed it must be wrong, and cancelled it. I think it was in my mind at the time to refuse to dispense it, but I was glad he agreed to stop it.

3 weeks ago, one of dispensers noticed someone nicking some baby milk from the shop. as she always suspected him doing so, she was ready on the CCTV once he came in for some needles. i was the only guy in that shop" well with a locum male who simply did not care, and 3 other dispensers+counter assistants". i shouted at him " excuse me, we caught you on the CCTV nicking some things( in a loud voice), he ignored me and left the shop walking in a calm manner, i ran after him, grabbed him and took the nicked stuff back ( wanted to kick his ass but ahhh dunno why i did not).

i returned with a smile on my face, expecting a "thank you" from the present pharmacist, hmmm still waiting to hear it from him or the head office whom been informed about the situation and still said " do not ban that guy from the shop".

on the next day, the other locum told me ' it's just not worth putting yourself in danger, for what? 20 pounds worth of milk that is not even your money' ( sounds like a good advice but well .....).

the funny thing is, a 3rd locum on the 3rd day" yes 3 different locums in consequent days" said: next time, if you go after someone, beat him up but outside the shop, and watch out when you walk home t night :P

what does the "code of conduct" says about these kind of things?

i came to a conclusion ; my safety is more important than 20 pounds which even not from my pocket money......... if the company simply did not care, why should i.

Raoul, if you wanted to would you have had a fight with him ? Then again your own safety is probably more important than trying to be a hero.

i agree nic, i posted that message when i was innocent. now i have a better understanding of how things operate in the real world :P or at least i believe i have a better understanding
