    Lessons of History

Watched 'Khartoum' on video last night. Would commend this film with Lawrence Olivier and Charlton Heston on merit but also as an example to all those who believe that history does not repeat itself and that politicians make wise decisions.
The Mahdi? was a 19th C equivalent to Osama Bin Laden.

There may be a few people out there who don't believe history repeats itself, but you will be hard pressed to find anyone who believes politicians make wise decisions.

I regret you are right. Unfortunately, we are suffering real casualties. The Government persists in the delusion that terrorists come from Afghanistan, but, most, including the Swedish one are from UK and specifically Luton. Perhaps the soldiers should be withdrawn and transferred to Luton. At least prospective terrorists outside the UK are not funded by benefits.
Will be interesting to see if the Swedish bomber enjoyed our welfare largesse.

also interesting to read that the reduction in the Opium crop in afghanistan is nothing to do with coalition intervention, but due to fungal infection

There seemed to be a shortage of medicinal diamorphine some time back. Perhaps Fairtrade could buy the crop in Afghanistan
and be used by the west for medicinal purposes.
