    Happiness

    Does happiness start at home?

So if youre stressed at home do you find it affects your work or are you really professional.

If youre happy at home do you find it makes your work easier?

Should you keep your personal and professional life seperate, even if its your own pharmacy?

Always try to put the mental shutters down with those of the shop. <g>
But it is hard not to nit-pick especially as we are so used to looking at detail all day.
This can transfer to home-life and cause arguments - especially as we are used to trying to save money all day. (Usual stuff - all lights in house left on, TV on with no one watching etc etc).
Best cure on the way home is the comedy on Radio 4, 1830 to 1900.
Have pals who aren't in the profession, get out more and do stuff at random to interact with people at their best instead of at their worst.
Or have an absorbing constructive hobby with no SOPs!

Watching comedy is great and laughter is the best medicine (so they say), until someone comes and tries to spoil the little happiness you have left and accuses you of "having a laugh". I think you should be able to enjoy your job but obviously not at the expense of someone else, for example if you have someone quiet at work (or new staff) to enjoy your work by winding them up, or joking about them is wrong. Sometimes it is harmless fun but you need to respect the feelings of others at work, its not too difficult to see if someone is offended.

Learned very early in career (pre-pre-reg) never to wind anyone up, poke fun at anyone or make jokes with patients. It backfires and the area manager (or TGM - Territory General Manager as was) has no sense of humour.

So you develop a work persona.

But we wern't talking about this - we were talking about pharmacists (and their staff) getting and remaining happy.

i think you have to keep your personal and professional life seperate...if you lived and breathed work 24/7 it will get too much...you need to take a break from pharmacy. Having friends outside of work and non-pharmacy related allows you to take stock of the real world

being happy at home makes work more bearable...otherwise you end up bringing your home problems into work and venting your frustration at people who can do nothing to help you!

Not sure if being married to another pharmacist is a blessing or not.
I guess you get used to discussing problems without passing on your frustration?

Actually, I'd say the opposite in a good shop.... certainly here we all tell each other what's going on, problems and stresses. Even if it doesn't move things further on, it's good to talk about stuff to people who aren't involved as such.

Although, in times of particular stress/interest in anyone's life we do end up calling the coffee time chat "The Jeremy Kyle Show"

maybe...i always find that when i bring up issues in work, nothing really gets it sorted and i just end up moaning even more lol...which is often good as well!

as for marrying another pharmacist, i don't think i coudl do it...end up talking shop all evening....i'd rather switch off once i leave work...although saying that i did dream last night about rotas after spending an afternoon writing one...not good!

Shop talk is quickly dealt with; problems solved with the others impartial insight.
You know when the other needs a bit of space.
And it makes you realise how valuable your leisure time is.
