    Bank holidays

Hiya I was wondering if anyone out there can help me. I work 5 days a week tues-sat. The pharmacy I work for gives us 20 days holiday Plus the eight bank holidays. The other full time members of staff get paid for the bank holidays as well as obviously not working them. For the 4 bank holidays that fall on mondays I get just paid for them. As I already have mondays off I am entitled to a day in leiu? I would be grateful if someone could help me as my boss says im not entitled to anything .

This is a similar situation for me. I've been off on Mondays for nearly two years and I don't get anything extra. I asked our HR department and after they'd woke up from their morning naps, they told me I wasn't entitled to anything.......don't you just love it....My wonderful company stiffs us on holidays as it is.

They would deduct the time we spent blinking if they could.

    I like blinking I do!

The pharmacy I work for gives us 20 days holiday Plus the eight bank holidays.
You are entitled to 28 days including the 8 Bank holidays. If those Bank holidays are not included then you should still get your full entitlement of 28 days ie a day in lieu for each missed Bank holiday.

The law was changed in April 09 from 20 days with discretionary bank Holidays to 28 days with Bank Holidays included. It sounds like the same thing but under the old rules you would be entitled to 4 weeks (20 days) Holiday. Most companies would pay fro Bank Holidays but this was discretionary. In your case as you don't work the Mondays you would not be paid.
Under the new rules you are entitled to 28 days but your employer can include Bank Holidays days as part of the 28. Whether you work the Bank Holidays or not you are still entitled to 28 days. If you are off on the Bank Holiday and paid it counts as one of the 28 but if you are not paid it does not count.
Try these useful links an email to Acas would be more conclusive.
