    Wages

Should the government or governing bodies have more involvement on salaries for different skilled professions. The minimum wage is in place and helps many people but maybe some people abuse this trying to get away with paying staff as little as possible. For example both an ex-convict who works at a spar serving on tills and a pre-reg pharmacist can be paid the same minimum wage. The ex-convict has spent most of his life stealing cars, robbing, on benefits, drug dealing etc.. (sorry im just generarlising here) and the pre-reg has spent his/her entire life studying, passing exams, learning, working. So does it make any sense for them both to be paid the same wages?

Those who say its not all about money usually already have lots of it.

So what are your views on this

How true. One of my boss's said why did I worry so much about money 'money is not everything'. He never had a mortgage as his wife's parents bought them a house.

It's called working in a free market economy. You get what the market will pay.

    Re: Wages

if i was the pre reg, i'd move elsewhere and look for a better salary!! and i'd be more than peeved that an "ex-convict" is on a similar wage to me and doing something which doesn't require a 4 year degree.

At the end of the day, its down to the employer and what they want to pay their employees...as unfair as it may be, thats the way it works unfortunately!

However, you are the one with all the prospects - you won't be a pre-reg forever.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

If you want decent wages, ask to work for a doctor owned pharmacy. Honestly; you might be suprised at how well you are treated and how excellent the support staff are. We have pharmacists asking to work in our three pharmacies because there is real mutual respect

    Re: Wages

A pre-reg post is a training post. No matter how knowledgeable/efficient a pre-reg is, until they have their certificate/reg. no that says they can screen/check etc... they're no more use to the employer than a technician. Only once they fully qualify do their skills become truly marketable. If the ne'er-do-well chavvy criminal scallywag was being paid the same as a qualified pharmacist for working in Spar, there would be some disparity worth remarking on. And I'd be practising my shelf-stacking.

Also, if the ex-convict in question has got him/herself a steady job with a chain of mid-level convenience outlets, I say good on them for trying to turn their life around.
