    He's still there

Signor Capello has been given a vote of confidence by the FA. However BBC news has a new theory why we wuz not fab.

BBC Sport - Football - Fabio Capello to remain England manager

I quote: "The make-up of the squad..."

So, had the WAGS been in attendance, all would have been well?!

As much as the players have to take collective responsibility for their poor performance, Capello should have shouldered the lions share, done the right thing and quit. Yes he might command respect for his success at club level but the team showed no passion or determination to succeed - Redknapp all the way.

i think people see capello as a scapegoat. he wasn't actually on the pitch kicking the ball and scoring the goal(s) albeit not many of them.....

i personally think it falls down to the players, there is only so much a manager can do to motivate the players and train them, and yes capello may have made a faux pas on selection, but ultimately its the players lack of teamwork which has enabled them to enjoy an extended summer holiday on their yachts and holiday homes

The players deserve a good b****cking but the manager shouldn't escape either. Somehow England have managed to perform worse than they did at the last world cup. Switching the players around won't magically make them perform better - the whole team needs uprooting.

Harry Redknapp??? Would he be any better than Steve McClaren? As far as I know all he has achieved of note is winning the FA cup and keeping Portsmouth up (although he was also relegated with Southampton). Also international football might not suit Harry, because it doesn't involve buying any players - give Harry 100 million, he'll quite happily spend that 100 million for you.

Why not give him a chance ? Surely they can't do any worse than they have done so far

Sven Goran Eriksson, no previous international management experience... 2002 World Cup, 2004 Euro's, 2006 World Cup not past the quarter final stage.
Steve Mclaren, no previous management experience...couldn't even qualify for Euro 2008.
Fabio Capello, no previous management experience...struggled throughout the World Cup.

If he had not agreed to become Turkey manager from next month, Guus Hiddink would have been an even better choice.

Why not give big Sam a chance then? Or Alan Curbishley, or Barry Fry for that matter. The point I'm trying to make is that following every World Cup premature exit, the public always want the manager's head on a plate. Capello is a great manager - his record confirms this, this only leave the players. Maybe they just aren't up to it. Maybe the foreigners make the English players look better than they are (think back to the season before last, where Gerrard had the season of his life playing of Torres and Alonso pulling the strings in midfield.) Last season Alonso wan't there and Torres wasn't fit half time, so Gerrard struggled.
Harry wouldn't be the answer either - any success he has had in the past has been due to a big transfer kitty at his disposal. As you know in international football you are stuck with the players you've already got, so I think Harry would struggle.

i'm thinking i could do a better job on the pitch...and i'd only cost a fraction of the price, plus i'd have a minimal entourage following me around...just my PA, hairdresser, fashion stylist, publicist, nanny, lighting director, my own camera crew and press officer!!!

To be a good international team you need only to have a decent bunch of players and alot of pride and passion about the piece of cloth that doth cover the upper torso, unfortunately England lack the last. Without the pride in wearing that shirt the team is nothing.
