Current ornithology story:


I heard a cuckoo the other night when I went out to walk the dog.

"That's lovely", I thought, as I started up the bottom of the hill. "I've not heard one for years. First cuckoo of spring and all that..."

And went up the hill with a seasonally appropriate spring in my step







By the time I got to the top of the hill, I was thinking "It's lucky for that #%$^&*ing cuckoo I don't live in that farmhouse with that $&&£"%ing cuckoo-ing cuckoo-ing bird next to it or I'd have got my air rifle out and shot it right up the #*&^%$^ing cuckoo."

As I walked back down the hill, I noticed that the "koo", by strange co-incidence, had taken on a slightly strangled quality; so I guess maybe someone agreed with me, but, lacking the appropriate weaponry, had to settle for fingers around its scrawney little neck....
