i had to scrap my beloved Fiat 500l when I was at college because I couldn't afford to put it through its MOT.
First car during pre-reg year was a Mini 850, when I qualified I upgraded to a mini city 1000 ( which was treated to a Cooper garages tuning kit when i left hospital for community a year later ).
Then followed a Mini 1275 with cooper kit, then a Mini 1275 mpi , then a John cooper garages cooper s-works, then a MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S, MINI cooper JCW , MINI CLUBMAN ( < sold to buy another classic John Cooper S-works and a Honda Jazz AUTO< for the wife ).
I really must do something about that Honda

My first car was an early mini 850. The co I worked for as a rep did not provide cars but gave you a loan £300 to buy one and then mileage, tax and insurance.
The mileage in those days was 6d/mile (2 1/2p). The mini did a good 50 miles per gallan and petrol was 20p a gallon. So I spent 20p and received £2.50. I did all my own servicing and thus the car was a great money spinner. If I was on my own I would consider the new mini, but must admit I love my Mazda 2. Also does 50mpg.
