I am using an asus eee at this moment. Very sexy, but limited useability because of the keyboard and 9" screen. It has no hard drive, just a couple of high capacity camera cards. 6 hour battery life, though!
I back up onto the free online storage that comes with the machine, but really don't save anything on it at all. I use it for internet chat and for accessing forums etc on the move.
If it went belly-up, I would have a problem as I don't have a stand-alone dvd drive either, but the forums give instructions on how to boot up from a data stick.
....just my opinion
OK.. so in the wake of the Vista fiasco, we now have 'Windows 7'. Anyone using it yet? I'm sure any feedback will be much appreciated...especially by me! Please post and let us know if it's any good, as the TV adverts are worse than useless.
Fleeg.
i've got it - i had an etch-a-sketch end of the world type moment with xp, lost all my data and stomped off in a huff to replace it with the 64 bit version of windows 7.
don't know what the jump from vista to 7 is like but i have to say xp 32bit to 7 64bit was hassle free. PC now runs faster (because it can access its ram properly and use the processor a bit better), looks better and now doesn't fall over every 20 mins like a drunk running a marathon.
If anything goes wrong, it just sorts itself out, dusts itself off and hands you back your (still) working pc.
And it can install driver files and updates without even needing to reset itself. which is a lot less annoying.
