I've heard as well that because the multiples have bought up most of the independents that pharmacists' salaries will be driven down because we're seen as just another department manager in these large chains. Basically we won't have the same status/respect as other health professionals if we're just seen in this way

Simple answer: don't work for one of the large multiples. The group in kent I have done my pre-reg with, and am staying with once I register (18 days and counting) has around 80 pharmacies, a wholesaler and a PI business, and is familly run. The owner lets his managers run their pharmacy as if it were their own and there are no area managers or targets etc. The company is forward looking its pharmacies offer whatever services the PCTs will pay for - within the group there are INR clinics, H.pylori testing, supplementary prescribers, EHC on PGD and so on. There are also several ACTs, who I think are wonderfull.

I am positive about the future, although I'm not sure how posititve I would be if I worked for one of the large multiples
